IAN WATSON AUDIO PRODUCTION

Previous Projects
Below is a small selection from some of the many projects I've worked on over the years...

Beethoven 2020
Completing the set after the Moazrt 225 and Bach 333 compilations which I also worked on, it was a long but thoroughly rewarding journey to master this 118 CD box set.

Mendelssohn Violin Concerto - Vengerov/Pappano
I was honoured to be asked by Maxim Vengerov during lockdown in March 2021 to produce the audio for his livestream from Santa Cecilia with Antonio Pappano of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. Watch the video here:

Tchaikovsky: Symphonies -
RLPO / Petrenko
Petrenko's Tchaikovsky cycle with Liverpool was a great project to work on. Produced by Andrew Cornall, engineered by Philip Siney and edited by myself and Jenni Whiteside.

Mozart: The Magic Flute
VPO / Solti
This was the first opera I edited, back in 1990. I got to go to Vienna to do a playback with Solti, which was a big deal for a young inexperienced editor! As a recording, I think it's stood the test of time well, and I'm particularly pleased with the many sound effects I did. A few years later I worked on another opera with Sir Georg, Verdi's Traviata with Angela Gheorghiu. This time the playback was at his London home. Afterwards he asked if I could let myself out; I got lost and embarrassingly found myself in the kitchen with a bemused Lady Solti asking if I needed help...

Mark Anthony Turnage: Blood on the Floor
I'm a huge fan of Mark Anthony Turnage and this was the third recording I edited for Argo, after Greek (on which I found myself being part of the chorus!) and Your Rockaby. This one really pushed the boundaries. It was recorded on 48 tracks - not uncommon today but at the time (1997) the maximum you could edit at once was 24 tracks. So, using a Sonic Solutions system everything had to be done in two 24 track passes, all carefully synced to timecode. I was told I was the first person to ever do this.

Cecilia Bartoli: Maria
I have been fortunate to work with many fine artists and also many fine producers and this was the last collaboration between two of the best - Cecilia and her first producer Christopher Raeburn. I learned a lot from working with Christopher over the course of 16 or so years and feel very privileged to have been one of the editors he chose to work with on his last recording. It's probably one of her best too!
